Inishowen, Co. Donegal, 16/3/14.

People:Myself and Ciaran.

Duration: 0700-1200
Tide: HW 0615

Weather:Stiff westerly, mostly dry.

Bait: Metal lures

Rigs: n/a
Results: 1 Sea-trout

Report: A very belated first session of 2014 for myself but with a few days off I packed my shiny new lure rod and reel and hit the road for Donegal. Time to stop reading reports and get in on the action

Alarm set for 5.45, quick brekkie, flask and sandwiches packed and I was away. Arrived at the mark just before 7. There was a stiff enough breeze blowing and plenty of water moving down the channel so conditions were looking tricky for the early part of the dropping tide but it proved fishable enough. We were steadily covering the ground and conditions became easier as the tide dropped. About two hours into the dropping tide I got a good take just where the ground shelved-off into the main channel and after a nice scrap landed my first ever sea-trout, about 35 cm, and I was one happy chappy!
Fished on for several hours but no more fish taken. Overall I was just delighted to (a) get out and enjoy a nice Inishowen day and (b) christen the new rod with the target species and break my sea-trout duck! Can't wait to get out again now :D
It ain't easy but it sure is simple!

Yeah it was nice to get the new gear tested out alright and blow a few cobwebs away after the winter break.
