Rigs: 2 hook paternoster. also tried some soft plastics for a bit
Report:
another effort for a north coast bass proved fruitless today again but a handsome little flounder obliged to save the blank - it managed to find the point on a 2/0 hook.
what a glorious day it was, a nice consolation. great to be out
tried out a new multiplier reel from the beach today. 2 snap-offs

hi Cortaz
this area i am/was fishing has produced bass in the past but only on occasion, my friends have succeeded a couple of times but they have blanked many times too. i reckon i have fished it 15 times now without success.
i fish between 2 outcrops of small boulders about 200yrds apart. there are very few features (outflows, shelves, etc) on the beach that are easy to identify that might hold bass, and this spot is where my friends have been successful in the past.
i was using 2 rods last night at varying distances. i tried 3 different locations along the beach and was casting around 60yrds and 20yrds with each rod, but no joy.
i was using razor tipped with a little mack on both rods.
i was using a grip lead for the distance rod and a pyramid lead for the close-in rod.
me and my fishing mates have tried an assortment of baits and all instances of moon phase, tides and day times in the past. we have fished the new moon into dusk and night, and at high tide etc, and during different sea states.
some people say that there are plenty of bass on the north coast but you just need to know where to find them, i would tend to agree with them, its hard going. they are certainly not here in the same numbers as they are on the south coast..
?
Tough luck on the bass Chuckaroo but as somebody consoled me recently,
"a 6lb Bass is bound to grab one of those baits one of these days.... "
The flounder saved a blank, something to be glad for.
As a matter of interest, what sort of multiplier did you get?
Great pictures, very atmospheric.

aye, it is a Shakespeare Solara. Not too expensive, and i dont like it too much..
its the first time that i have tried too use a multiplier from the shore. it is loaded with 40lb braid, would this be an issue - braid?
the line kept catching on itself and almost birds-nesting and the line wasnt flowing too freely when the switch was disengaged to prepare for a cast i.e it seemed fine. and i was keeping my thumb on the spool during the cast.......
thanks JW

I think you just answered your own question there! Braid is not suited to multiplier casting as it tends to dig in on itself, it's fine on fixed spool reels. I would suggest you use 0.35mm/15lb b.s. monofilament instead. Go for a good brand as some bargain lines are prone to casting problems. Daiwa Tournament Monofil, (fluo. yellow), Daiwa Sensor Surf, (fluo. orange, a bit cheaper) or Asso Hardskin (solid white) would be my favourites. In terms of reels, paying for a more expensive one is well worth it, I recently got a Penn 515 Mag 2, lovely to cast straight out of the box. (Weymouth Angling, £104 +p.p)http://www.weymouthangling.com/tackle-shop/tackle/penn-515-525-mag2/

nice1 JW, great response there. yeah, i suspected the braid then
i'll look into some mono, give it another chance. hopefully i'll get it up and running soon enough
appreciated!
Stunning pics enjoyed that makes ya wanna grab the rods and head out Fishing is slack on the beaches here at the moment also (donegal) just the small flounder left in the shallows and plenty of coley and trout still on the feed though.
great pics Charlie. just a pity the bass didn't oblige man.
but when I looked at the tides, weather and moon phase I was thinking the same thing myself. should be good for a chance of a bass. but we opted for Donegal and Jordan's wee mate got one.
great minds think alike man
so I reckon you were bang on but they might just have passed close by to you man.
stick at it!!

everything just looked ideal Al, there were just the perfect, sea, tide, time and weather conditions i reckon.
i tried my heart out again but i really don't believe the bass were (ARE) there...... hen's teeth to say the least
that'll probably be the last time i have a go for them up on the north coast for the time being
(maybe )
cheers

would you have any advice Cortaz? - in relation to my response to these question above..
cheers
Had some fine Bass off thon beach, but closer to the end of the year.
B***y had an 8lb fish and a 5.5lb offa it one night, just need to be there when the Bass are there, also they seem to turn up on the same nights as the seatrout Am ???? fresh yellows anyone
I have a Shakespeare solara loaded with 18lb red ice, casts no problem and apart from a few tangles on my first few sessions the reel has really balanced well , I do use it on fairly dirty spots though so it needs cleaned out a lot
fedstar wrote:..just need to be there when the Bass are there..
i target the bass off this beach only over the winter months Fedstar, as its the only type of sea fishing worth the effort during the winter months i reckon..
but i would do it right through the whole winter. so you reckon what months are best? when did Billybob get his fish and when's best for the trout. im guessing sept, oct, nov then?
thanks for the advice there. appreciated

thanks seabass. yeah, i will just have to take the braid off again and get some mono on...
im sure this wee reel will suffice then
cheers
