People: myself

Duration:all night

Tide: an hour before low tide to 3 hours before high tide
Weather: mist, but cleared later on warm night

Bait: razor,frozen black lug, fresh blow lug, sandeel and herring

Rigs: flounder rig, running ledger, 1up,1down flapper

Results:2 5Bearded rockling and a towing and repair bill for 185

Report:
i started off with 2 rockling while digging bait before low water mark, nice start at a time I wasn't even expecting a bite, after chatting to another angler, I decided I would pack up and move a beach or two down to chase some coalie, off to get the car I go, to load it up. I managed to get it stuck in the sand, after a few hours of digging, trying to build a makeshift road I gave up, fishing over before 9pm. What promised to be a decent night, ended at 3am with me slinging my bag over my shoulder and walking for home,phone battery well and truly dead, car abandoned, well at least I didn't blank

Hard luck but wat a way to beat the blank ull always learn from mistakes better luck next time

That's just horrible. At least you could walk home thought and u didn't blank. Similar happened to me still have the nightmares I was 60 mile away from home.

Its not all bad, I scouted every inch of the beach to the hotel and when I collected the car last night i had a good look around aghada pier for bait digging and a possible mark or two for bass and flounder.
I also came across a few streams that I would not have spotted from the car.
I made the best of a bad situation

17 to 18 KM walk did me the world of good.
Thanks to Petr the hungarian carp angling taxi driver who stopped and picked me up and dropped me home.

I'm already planning to go out tomorrow night it was only small setback

Hard luck with the car trouble lad.
If your car gets stuck in sand, stop and don't try to bully it out, you just get bogged down more.
Take the floor mats out of the car, scoop the sand away from all four wheels and then put your mats under your drive wheels, dig them in good and tight under the front of the tyres; Try shunt the car for a couple of seconds forward or backwards whichever way your trying to get out of the sand. Get out and reposition the mats if necessary until you get some traction. This works if ya haven't buried the car to the axles.

Been there a few years ago in Dungarvan. Driving down the bank when my jeep suddenly hit soft sand and sank

. 4 wheel drive did not solve problem. Tide was rising and Cortaz from site came to "rescue" with his jeep and some rope

. No luck

. Things were looking disastrous but Cortaz managed to get a guy with a local tractor to save the day

. 10 minutes later and the jeep would have been covered by the tide......it would have cost a lot more than what you paid.

By the way I discovered that my jeep would not have been covered by insurance as it was off road . I thought that was one of the reasons for having a jeep

I had the same experience once in the same place in dungarvan but I was in a polo, not a jeep.

I know exactly how you feel its a nightmare ..... it happend me twice before , once in carnsore point and once in rostoonstown in wexford but luckily i knew the farmer living at the beach and he pulled me out with a tractor ... well done with the fish

For as long as I have been going fishing, I have been prepared for breakdowns etc, I always keep spare headtorchs, usually 4 in total a pack of batterys, a change of clothes and footwear, the one thing i didnt have was a charger for my phone, the local farmer did try to pull me out but the ropes snapped, it wont stop me going out, I always show my wife where im heading on google map before i head out, ive driven on to a dozon or so beaches and never got stuck, lesson learned for future , park and walk.
I'm heading out tonight, this time a little closer to home and I will be fishing from a pier, I won't be able to rest untill i've checked all the items on my 2014 wishlist.

I have always felt that siht happens for a reason and that siht might not be near as bad as what may be waiting for you down the road,

I could write a book on the subject. Good to see you made the best of a bad thing

Very bad luck with the motor mate, hope that you will have better success the next time. I go a car stuck on Rossbeigh beach years ago now and and the tide came up round her, she was a right-off in then end, at least you were lucky in that way.
