Killiney 13.02.14
People: Me
Duration: 19.30 - 23.00
Tide: Rising
Weather: Surprisingly calm
Bait: Fresh Lug, frozen crab, frozen mack.
Rigs: Flappers & Pulleys
Results: One decent codling and an army of pin whiting.
Report: Got out last night for my first session of 2014. Had two rods in the water, one scratching in close with size 4's flapper and one at distance with a 2/0 pennel pulley with frozen crab.
First cast at distance resulted in a good knock which turned out to be a nice plump codling who gave a good account for himself on his way in. Codling weighed in at 3.5 lbs. Thought I was in for a busy session but fishing turned out to be slow enough with pin whiting robbing every bait for the remainder of the night. No decent whiting showed with the biggest of the night being 24cm.
Was fishing at the end of the car park and noticed a big change in the sea bed with a lot more snags than before in close and at distance so plenty of rigs lost throughout the night.
Codling took frozen crab but after that crab was no touched all night. Whiting were taking lug tipped with mack and then taking mack strips just as quick.
Nice to be out for a few casts and a pan sized codling was an added bonus.
