People:meself and a mystery guest and a polish lad for a bit

Duration:3/4 hours

Tide:high going low

Weather:grand,one shower..no cold.

Bait:mackerel and peeler

Rigs:10/0 and 6/0 wire traces,1/0,2/0,3/0,4/0,5/0-one hook clipped down,pulley,upside-down pulley,2 hook flapper,pulley pennels and even a sheppey at one stage...

Results:
10 LSD,1 conger



Report:got down to the pier handy enough this day last week,with the intention of fishing 3 rods,a cut down 12ft techno for conger,an 9ft alpha for float fishing for whiting and me piece of sh*t 15ft quantum to see if there was anything at distance,while the buddy was fishin a 15ft at distance and free-lining a crab for the crack aswell on a light spinning rod.i didnt get a chance to set up the 3rd rod it was so busy with the doggies.
we knew they'd be around but jahsus laad they were starving and seemed to have more of a fight in them than normal for some reason...they were all around the kilo mark with the exception of a few heavier and longer just scratching the underside of specimen weight..
i had forgotten how much fun catching doggies could be. :D twas great action.
i have'nt seen much of them this year at all on the beaches,every cast thru up bites but to be fair there was nearly as many failed hook ups as there was catches so we were up and down hooks sizes and different traces for a while.the buddy was out for a few whiting and had light gear setup up for them,so he didnt bother with his leader and sure wouldnt ya know it a conger took it,sure he was fighting a loosing battle straight away with 18lb suffix leaderless.he was havin an awful time with failed hook ups,even tho he is an exceptional sea angler in most aspects of the sport,he was having an off day.it seemed when we changed up hook sizes to a larger hook and bait smaller fish would pick it bare and when we used smaller hooks larger fish would take it give him a bit of a fight and break free...at one stage my full mackerel bait came back just a spine on the hook like something out of a cartoon :)
but thats fishing tho.
he did hook into a beautiful almost all white female LSD,a very strange colouring for them,the variations of colour aswell between all the dogs spanned a vast spectrum but the white one,twas the star for me.must try to get the pic from him and post it.
about ten yards away the polish lad hooked into a pollock on float..nice 8)
i gave up on fishing two rods in the hope of rolling a smoke and having a coffee and settled for just the one with a monster hook 10/0 o' shaughnessy with a topped and tailed mackerel with the guts in and a big lad took it,so i proceeded to skulldrag him gaining 5/6 inches at a time and the whole fight i'd wished i used the techno :roll: especially when the biggest spigot gave way on me rod.snapped like a bamboo cane and i watched the red ice slip thru the guides and drift off just out of reach in the wind.the rod was a 3 piece of shite,a quantum procast 420,the buddy filmed it so ill stick a link up.

i had broken the tip off a while back with a 2lb coalfish so to be honest i was more worried bout the conger with the 10/0 in its gob,but thats fishing for ya.a fairly busy night at the dogs,10 dogs between us and i was granted a fine strap of a conger bout 3ft long and 3/3.5 inches in diameter fo me birthday.

nice one lucky that conger looks a bit better that a strap you must be used to catching monsters well done on a good session

cheers alan,he was a grand size lad but the one i lost due to the gammy rod breakin had some weight...theres definatly 10 footers down there,am sorting out a 535 soon,with maybe 40lb mainline for 'em and a strong ass leader...
cheers for that reel again man,i'm still looking for a handle for it would ya believe :roll:

2012 species: Pollock, Mack, Coalfish, Gurnard, Bullhuss, Dogfish and Wrasse.
Would do anything for a bass!

they werent taking the 10/0 man,id only the one bite on it,twasnt no doggie...its too big for 'em...the biggest hook a dog took that night was a 5/0 aberdeen.
