Bait: Frozen Mack and Artificials
Rigs: Feathers, Pulley Rigs
Results: 1 Bull Huss
Report: Was due to head out on a boat trip on Saturday but the boat was put into dry dock in order to fix the propeller. So decided to make the most of the weather and headed for Streedagh. Was hoping for some Pollack/Coalfish action for the father as he hasn't caught all year. Normally we fish the cove o the southern end but as the tide was suiting we headed for the northern point. The ground here is tackle hungry and the father lost gear before i even got the bait rod set up so he wanted to move didnt really get to give it a go myself. Tried a spot in front of an old boat shed and got the huss on frozen mackerel. The action was very quiet and moved again to the cove. Nothing much more to report apart from two lost fish (and more rigs) not sure what they were but from past experiences assuming they were probably Huss or small straps.
Good to get out though with the father and enjoy a mild October day....

Well done on getting the huss, was he any size? Did you ever try using any type of rotten bottom gadget like Breakaway Escape links or the Gemini equivalent to save a few rigs?

Hi John the huss was small enough but I'm sure there are bigger fish here for the taking. Have never tried any rotten bottom gadget its on the to do list need to beef up some rigs before i try the area again. Have you any experience of the area?

try the alan yates weak link,you'll get your trace back!
handy and no fancy gimmicks,ya just tie on the gemini weight clip upside-down to the end of your trace trunk,like onto the loop where you would normally put your weight,then tie your 10lb line to the eye of the gemini and the to the eye of your weight and that little turn in the gemini that you'd usually clip your hook down to serves to carry your weight during casting as its upside-down and releases on impact with the water.its cool.just bewary when casting that your weight stays on the gemini and use impact shields to clip down to...crazy what u'd think of to use as weight.big single links of old chain,speaker magnets,nuts and bolts it goes on and on...

Cheers lucky must give that a try and see what lurks in the area.... really does have potential but is so snaggy the gear losses are racking up.
