problems with down the butt casting???
wondering if any body has had this problem. fished last night and had a crack off on 4 consecutive casts. wasnt getting an overrun or anything and wasnt blasting the cast. looking at the line it looked as if it was being abraded off sumthing. checked my eyes and they were all perfect, there fuji's. it occured to me that the distance between the first eye and reel seat is about 5 1/2 feet as i fish reel down. i changed the reel position to up the but about 31/2 feet and it seemed to alleviate the problem. just wonderin if sum 1 else has suffered such problems with down th but casting or can shed light on the situation. would be much appreciated.

Here is how you check the inner ring of a guide to see if there are any sharp edges. Take a cotton bud and wipe it around the inside of the guide ring on every guide including the tip guide, if there is any sharp chip no matter how small it will pull a little of the cotton off the bud.
You cant always feel a very fine chip with your finger, I've tried this and found a chip when I thought the guides were fine.
Lets know how your test goes if you try it.
Tom.
