LRF in Donegal Bay, 17/06/2013

#1 Post by johnwest »

People:Me

Duration:3 hrs

Tide:Early flood

Weather:Beautiful, calm sea, sunshine.

Bait: Power Isome worms, mackerel strip and lug

Rigs:2.5g jigheads

Results:12 Pollack, 2 goldsinny wrasse and 2 poorcod.

Report:
Earlier this year I decided to give LRF a go; something to do while waiting for a bite on the bait rods. First cast with a small jighead and Power Isome worm and I connected with a 34cm Pollack! Just in case this was a fluke, I kept at it and landed a total of 12 Pollack ranging from a mere 11cm to 46cm which really put a bend in the rod. I also had plenty of "attacks" almost at my feet but I think the fish saw me at the last minute. Strips of mackerel also worked as did real lug. Two goldsinny wrasse and two small poor cod completed the tally. I was a bit surprised not to get any ballan wrasse from this spot which last year produced my p.b. I can't wait to get stuck into a decent ballan. There's something very satisfying about seeing a bend in the rod even if it is just a tiddler, I'll definitely be trying this again. I was initially a bit dubious about the Power Isome worms but have to concede that after handling them, the scent from my hands was not at all unpleasant, if ever I run out of sambos and coffee I might just try ..... well maybe not.

That was a great LRF session. I'm new to it this year aswell, but as you say it's great craic. Those tiddlers can put up a right good fight.
