Mack bashing rods

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Mack bashing rods

#1 Post by Leesider »

Hi all,

With mack bashing season coming on us I was thinking of getting a new rod and reel. I have a teklon concept paired with a shimano stradic ci4 300f for lure fishing and I love this light setup for bassing. I was wondering what setup people find good for feathering? The main thing I want is a lightweight setup, so a good 3 piece rod casting up to 3 oz leads thats nice and light for standing for hours chucking 2 or 3 oz leads out. Also a nice lightweight reel to match..basically something robust for mack fishing but with the lightweight aspect of rod and reel important.
Any recommendations?

Salt range do a nice selection of 3 piece rods, bass rod flattie rod and a 10ft mpv and would double up for light beach casting.

Id just stick a 20gr dexter at the end of about 3 flashers.

Or just dispense with the feathers all together

Edit: using your existing setup

I have the 10ft, 3 piece penn powerstix bass spin rod rated to 3 oz and I find it brilliant for macks. I stick my Penn 6000 off my bass rod on it for feathering. its a great, light rod for blasting out feathers.
