Trip down the Shannon 26/05/2012

#1 Post by Conger »

People: Me

Duration: 2pm till 8ish

Tide: Incoming

Weather: Bit breezy but ok

Bait: Frozen Mack

Rigs: Pulleys

Results: Thank God not another Blank :D :D

Report: Have not been out recently so for the sake of my sanity i got me a green card for Sunday so with the bass ban on i decided to hit down the estuary for a nosy :!: Now, judging on my last 4 or 5 sessions hopes were not high as i think i have managed a coalie in the last few trips   I even had herself slagging me about the fishing   She reacons that everyone that i go fishing with does better than me, so with everyone else busy on Sunday i was off on my todd.
I decided that i would fish 2 different marks, the last time i tried these spots was with Junior Conger and Joe and between the 3 of us we had managed a 3b rockling (will include pic), had tried it since and had less joy :| Fishing Gods have not been on my side.
Arrived at the first mark, from inside the van it looked a bit breezy but ok, got out of the van and the clouds appeared and the temperture dropped, Bloody typical, put on the bib and brace and a slightly warmer jacket than i should have, within about 5 minutes off went the clouds and breeze and cue sun, again bloody typical after trekking down from the van with the gear   Any how, got the gear set up and launched the first baits, i was fishing 2 rods at distance as the tide was just on the turn, was just starting to take off the jacket when one of the rods took a bounce :!: This can't be, could it :?: :?: a blank saved this early, yes First cast produced a ray of around 2 lbs, up yours fishing goblins. Shortly after i got a slack line which produced a strap conger. Kept refreshing the baits as along with the fishies where a whole lot of hungry crabs eagerly waiting on every cast :| :| Next to show were 2 doggies nothing major in size, about 10 inches to a foot. Things went a little quiet for a while, but then i got that tell tale soft dip of the rod tip and after a little tussle up came a lovely thornie of 6.5lbs, at this point i had to phone Joebhoy as he was originally due to come along, a little bit of gloating was done but all in good sport
Decided to move on to the second mark, things were much quieter here but sure i had the day to kill so i said id stick with it, Oh was i happy i did, while have snoozing in the back of the van i noticed one of the rods taking a couple of very soft knocks, i lifted into it and straight away i could feel i was into a good fish, after a decent tussle i got another personal best for me, a 10lb Thornie 8) at this point i was chuckling to myself, there was a lad there with his 3 kids who took a pic for me, straight back in with fishy and set the rods again, shortly before i packed up i had another ray of about 2lbs, great to see fish back in the estuary, even better to catch a few of those fish :D :D
