Mornington

#1 Post by gussyw »

]People:me and a pal
Duration:3pm to 10pm

Tide:HT 19.45

Weather:overcast but warm

Bait:Lug,peeler,squid,sandeel

Rigs:3 hook clipped, pulleys,

Results:Sea trout

Report:

Decided to stay local today and hit an beal na boinne. We arrived to find fish jumping all over the place and a seal or 3 prowling round the estuary. I baited up with crab and sandeel on the flapper close in, and a full squid on a pulley on the other rod.
The first two hours were quiet enough with a few taps here and there but no fish, then about an hour into the flood, 2 sharp jerks on the closer rod and the line went slack I grabbed it and reeling in connected with the fish when it was about 10 yards away. After about 30 seconds of whizzing about all over the place and a hefty tail slap, the fight went out of it and it was all over.
Happy days.. :D
Quick photo and back he went none the worse
That was it for the rest of the session, not even a nibble on the distance rod but loads of knocks and jerks on the sandeel close in. The trout took the sandeel over the crab.

Great fish. They're all gorging themselves on the spawning lug and sandeels.
