Colliemore harbour 19/05/13

#1 Post by myworldfishing »

People:My self and the brother inlaw

Duration:All day ( we were away from the kids!)

Tide:All of it

Weather:Smashing day!

Bait:Lug and crab

Rigs:All sorts

Results:2 Wrasse

Report: Headed out to see could we land some nice wrasse and pollock on the dublin coast, so we headed out to collect so small hardbacks and some lug. After bait collection ( which is hard work in the sun ) we headed for the Dalkey area and sorrento. When we got to the rocky area in sorrento it was full with mac bashers. LOADS OF THEM and not a single fish being caught, so we headed to colliemore harbour which was deserted ( Happy days ).

We started fishing in close against the wall with all types of bait but the only one getting hit was the lug. Hit after hit and no hook ups. So I downsized on the hook, droped it in, and wham. A beautiful wrasse ( Not sure what type ). Its colour was beautiful and really strong.

About 30 mins later the bro inlaw had his SMALLER wrasse :)...
That was it then, some small hits but it died. We packed up about 8 and headed home for dinner happy that we got 1 of our targets....

I can never get thses photos to work so Il just give yea they link.. Also if someone can tell me what types of wrasse they are?

Lovely fish. I went down to Sorrento on a scouting trip with a view to trying for wrasse with soft plastic lures last year. I cancelled my plans when I saw the amount of mackerel hunters! I used to fish there a lot years ago and it got busy in the summer but I had it to myself in the winter. Anyway it was never as popular as it is now. I was going to try for wrasse a little further down the coast but got distracted. Well done on the wrasse.
