Kerry Bass on the last day..... Tuesday 14th May

#1 Post by joebhoy »

People: Me, Tipp John, Fergal and Lyndsey

Duration: 6pm-12am

Tide: HW @9pm

Weather: Blowin a hooley

Bait: Crab and comedy size Lug

Rigs: Many

Results: 18 Bass

Report:
Having well and truely caught the bass bug after my first fish a couple of weeks back I decided to hit Kerry for a wee session with a few lads I had never fished with.

Set off from Clare with the sun trying its best to sneak out past a couple of dodgy looking grey clouds. Raced down the road and met the guys on the beach getting set up. To say it was windy would be the biggest understatement of the year, the sand was being blown down the beach at an almighty rate. It was that bad that tripods, bait buckets and anything weighing less than 10 stone were getting blown away. I had to reposition my tripod to its lowest point just to keep the rods secure. Now i am sure that most folks would have done a legger at the first sight of the sand tornado making its way along the beach but not us hardy bucks

Anyway the water looked pretty awesome with a beautiful surf making its way up the beach. Having never fished this mark before I decided on two flappers, one short and one long. Both with the biggest lug I have ever seen before. I swear that the bait supplier must have got them at Dublin Zoo. The wee ones that I had dug the day before in west Clare looked like maggots in comparision.

The first fish was caught about 20 mins after getting the lines in the water, a wee schoolie. Happy days at least there were fish running the beach. We fished on for another 30 mins before heading down to a more sheltered spot as it was becoming rediculous with the wind.

After we moved it was mental with fish after fish being caught. The strange thing was that about 2/3 of the fish being caught were on crab despite this mark being welll known as a lug only mark. We met another angler who informed that he had caught 14 himself all on crab..........

As time progressed we fished on for a couple of hours of the dropping tide before packing up and having a few beers round the fire. Lyndsey even cooked up some grub on the stove which made a nice change from chewing sand......

In the end Tipp John finished with 9 bass to 8lb, Fergal 6 bass to 5lb and myself with 3 bass to 5lb. It was a great day out and even a sandstorm and sleep in the car couldn't put a dampener on the session.

Great company and great fishing..........
