Wexford Friday May 10th

#1 Post by finding nemo »

People: Chris, Power, Denis, Matt and myself

Duration: 8pm-12;30

Tide: 1hr rise then the drop

Weather: dry with sw 25kmph

Bait: crab and rag

Rigs: 3/0 pulleys and 3 hook flappers size 4

Results: Flounder, Rockling, Bass and Dogfish

Report:

Decided to head down to Wexford to see if there were any smoothies. Denis and Matt are new to the fishing so hoped to get them a fish or two. First cast Chris and myself had a double of bass and flounder each so a good start.
My bass was smaller than a whiting but a bass nonetheless. Chris had a better fish around 3lbs. Flats were around 25cm. All on ragworm.
Next up Chris had another bass a little bigger maybe close to 4lbs. (crab)
Just as it was getting dark Chris had another fish on which was giving him a good scrap so we taught lovely heres the hounds but we were taken back when a fine lump of silver hit the shore. We had no scales but it came close to 70cm and had a fine belly on him.

The bass were throwing up sandeel and caught at distance. Another fella fishing down from us had a tope pup also.

Denis had his first ever fish which was a small flounder, followed by a schoolie and another flounder about 28cm so he was delighted with himself and is already planning our next trip.

Matt saved the blank with a dog close to the end, i managed a flounder and rockling and Power was drowning rag.
Good to get the lads out and hopefully they stick at it now at least for the warmer months. All fish were returned.

Haven't had a report up in ages so there it is. :)

ps noticed all the words (bass) were auto corrected to capital B but flounder, dogfish etc remained lowercase. :?
Theres something fishy going on here.

great stuff lads. If thats where i think it is, the beach is looking very stoney. Has it become deeper there than last season?

There is a nice band of warm water just offshore in north wexford, maybe being kept back by the west winds. maybe just maybe the next warm, humid, calm, high pressure system would be a good bet for the hounds.
