Tra Na Rosann, Donegal, 10-05-13

#1 Post by johnrooney »

People: fishmad, Michael and myself

Duration:4 Hours

Tide: 1 hour before low tide

Weather: Strong winds and rain

Bait: Fresh Mack, frozen black lug, Razor, Squid, frozen sand-eel & Mussels

Rigs: 3 hook flappers, 2 up 1 down

Results: 3 Turbot

Report: This is my first report so bear with me...... We landed just before 12 o clock and set up 2 rods each, nice wee surf was up and the weather was ok when we landed but that soon changed.... we all had at least one tripod blowover even they were half buried in the sand. I fished one trace with conventional baits (mack & Lug) and one trace with everything else. Long story short myself and fishmad blanked and Micheal had 3 small turbot, we fished another mark near by after this but the weed was a killer and left after 2 casts.

Good effort of giving it a go. I am looking to fish that mark in the next couple of weeks or so. Was the weed bad on Tr Na Rossan?

My favourite mark in the whole country!! Well done on getting a few in those conditions. Its a wee bit early for this beach, give it another month and it should start picking up! Try the rocks out to the right and side of the beach. Clean ground and deep water, can throw up anything really. Also the beach to the left of Tranarossan which is accessible from the Atlantic Drive. This area is virtually untouched for beach fishing and i plan a few night sessions later in the year. The beaches behind Tranarossan on the mouth of Mulroy is also worth a throw for Rays & Dogs and i reckon Tope run up through there at some stage of the year!

Cheers Ronan that's good to know, I was looking at the beach to the left and thinking it would be a great mark but I couldn't see access on my phone DOH. Really nice beach must give it another go in June or July then so.
