Rathmullan Pier 25/04/13
People:just myself
Duration:4.45pm to 7.45pm (high tide 7ish)
Tide:flood
Weather:dry, breezy, sunny...then a hail shower from nowhere
Bait:frozen mackeral and sandeel
Rigs:2 hook flapper
Results:1 small flattie (either a dab or flounder)
Report: I was finished work at 2pm and since I was lying about doing nothing, I decided to give the pier a go. I got some bait and off I went. I landed at the pier to be greeted with a crab boat moored, this meant less space but I wasn't for turning. I got the bait in the water and after about 15 mins, the tip of the rod pulled down hard, i thought I was into something but nothing turned up!.
So, rebait and out it went again, the tide was flooding in, and my bait was being taken about 30 yards before even reaching the sea bed! After about 20 mins I noticed the slightest of nods that looked different to the way the wind and swell was making the tip move, so I reached for it and wound in, and there it was, a small palm sized flattie, that saved the blank!
After that I pulled in a small crab followed by a hermit crab and surprisingly a whelk that had taken my snood!..
All in all it was good to get out, there wasn't much weed about either. It was a rather spectacular failing of my leader knot that ended my session along with 3 lads who landed to fish feathers and since the crabber was in, it was a bit tight for room! I have pics on the phone but it says they are too big to upload, if I figure it out I'll post them later!
Cheers

Atleast you have your blank saved.
Always is good to be out no mater how does it ends.
Anyway there is something alive in the water and could be good news, fishing may began.
Well done on the session
