ramore head portrush sat 20th april

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me and junior

Duration: 1pm to 8pm

Tide: HW 4.30pm

Weather: 20mph westerlys gusting to 35mph but nice and sunny

Bait: rag, lug and mackerel

Rigs: pennel pulleys, sliding float, 8/0 conger traces, assorted soft plastics and spinners

Results: ME - blankety blank checkbook and pen. JORDAN - 3 bearded rockling

Report: with the last few trips all over ireland being a bit of a bust due to foul weather and almost 6 weeks of easterlys we decided to stick close to home this weekend and throw everything at it in a hope to finally find some fish. so after checking in on the parents to see if it was ok for us to head off we loaded the motor and set off to portrush. i reckoned ramore head would be a safe bet getting us access to deep water so we could try all disciplines of fishing to finally break this poor form we've been struggling with recently :( .
so i know it might sound a bit overkill but we tried everything. spinning, float fishing, bottom fishing and even had 4 boat rods out for conger. added to that there was a good 2lb of rag and lug that was almost beyond use. so whatever did'nt go on a hook got fed in bit by bit at our feet as groundbait to create a bit of interest. there was a dozen big mackerel that ended up going in in small pieces around the conger gear throughout the session to ampilfy the oily scent and lure any eels into the notion for a feed. so all bases were well and truely covered.
but alas, it was'nt to be    the only fish caught in the entire session was a decent enough 3 bearded rockling that hooked himself on jordans conger gear while i blanked yet again.
so jordan saved the blank and i went home fishless. i'm starting to think i've lost me mojo
hopefully the sea temps will rise soon and things will improve and i won't have to consider taking up golf or something
