I've a friend who played with one at the Daiwa trade show. He was very impressed with it. He wasn't able to take it apart for a look inside but he said it was a massive improvement on the standard 7HT. He thinks it might be built around a modified version of the speedshaft set-up used on the SLV's. The spool is very free and spins forever. He reckons ABU are about to have a big headache when the Turbo hits the beaches and tournament courts. The only downside is the colour apparently. The endplates are red with a gold spool but the frame is a pinky red and kind of off putting. Maybe the production models are different. He liked it enough to put an order in for two after Christmas.

spins for 8.5 seconds straight from box,it has the same speed shaft system as the slv series from diawa.you wont loss it as it is bright red in colour like a fire engine.but that said i think it is an improvment on the old model but there are rumours of a magged version comeing out aswell.

Its RED and TACKEY looking but it is a serious casting tool , You will see someone using one from 200 yards away!!

Hopefully the side plates and gear shaft don't decay likes its parent version the standard 7HT Non Turbo :lol:

on a serious note i would like a chuck with one of these new badboys! now have 2 7hts but they aint got no turbo and do me fine!

Have two 7ht's and still rate them as good as anything on the casting front. Just hope and pray that Daiwa have listened to people and improved the handle on the new version.

Even if they havn't I would not mind a wee go with the new one 8)

I'd hope it would spin longer than that if it has the new 'Free floating spool system' or its gonna need some tuning :twisted:
i've had some of the older 7HTs that spun longer straight from the box.

The one my mate seen at the trade show spun for well over a minute with no line on the spool. He eventually stopped it with his finger. He reckoned it had dry bearings and probably no brake blocks in it but it was really well balanced, fast and smooth and ABU won't like it one bit. He had a problem with the colour scheme though as the frame doesn't match the red of the sideplates. He did like the engineering enough to buy a pair after Christmas.

I think the new 7HT looks nice, some of the Japanes stuff can look tacky, but this one looks OK IMHO

They were always liked buy guys who had them (I'm one) but they (Daiwa) never really gave Abu a run for their money. The fact that almost every distance record was set with an Abu could have something to do with that, either because Abu's are easier to tune, I dont know. I know Paul Kerry used them in Tournaments along with Daiwa rods and alway came one step behind Mackellow, who knows, if he'd used an Abu he may have beat Mackellow.

But I do think Daiwa will sell a lot of this new reel, here and in the UK, for the price they will be good value, of that I'm sure.

I agree it needs a new style handle, possibly like the Abu and 525 style power handles.

just had one in my hands there now. they have extended the handle about 10mm or so, and fitted slightly bigger rubber grips to either end instead of the hard plastic on the original. i think it actually looks quite well but a power handle should have been supplied with it as i can still see the problems arising even with the improvements on the last one.
seems quite smooth but time will tell if its worth buying it or spending almost the same money on 2 of the originals instead!

i think beachcaster has a piont though about the mag version. i think it's due 2006. chances are it'll be better?
