Should I change the top eye.?.

#1 Post by Determined Dan »

I've a nice Dawia boat rod with a roller tip. My problem is some times the braid goes down the side of the roller. And I would be afraid the braid is now damaged also the braid get wraped around the roller easily. I've been thinking of Putting on a normal round top eye but I need to know would it effect the rod and what is the best make of eye to use. Or has any one done this.?,.

Change it as soon as you can.
You have choices...you could get a "captive roller eye" which is a roller for braid.
I would be happy with a standard round tip eye, just make sure the insert is ceramic...your local tackle shop will usually have a stock of eyes.
I usually use a fairly cheap tip eye as they get a bit of a knocking around and I am capable of breaking a Fuji as quick as a cheaper eye!

Thanks jim I'll go a head and change it ,is there a way of knowing a ceramic eye from a not ceramic . Incase they would try and sell the wrong type. .

Braid will cut into a standered rod guide you will need a specail ceramic like zircon or alconite.
If you can get me the tip diameter I can post one out to you and be careful taking of the old tip eye with heat try not to twist it of as the hot melt glue is not the only thing that melts when you heat the tip eye the resin in the blank melts to

Thanks very much Shane H I'll take off the old eye and measure the diameter and get back to you. Thanks again.
