Tripods

How much are they? and can anyone recommend a good one or are they more or less all the same quality?.Have been using the old style jigger and find it a bit heavy to be lugging around.

I've just bought a standard one from Veals. It was delivered quickly, relatively cheap but also well made.

There is only one name in rod-stands "Ian Golds" they were the first and still are the best value for money.

A few have ripped them off, but no one has ever made a better stand.

I have the telescopic Ian gold one which has spikes at the feet which makes them more stable than the imitations which are generaly flat. Its easy to fold up and the telescopic legs make it good on uneven rocky ground. The non-telescopic versions look more stable though.

Hello,

is the telescopic system of the Ian Golds durable?

Thanks,

The telescopic is well durable and in some ways better than the normal Match Stand. The Match Stand is perfect for the beach, be it sand or shingle, but the telescopic is great for jetties and rock marks because you can have your rod at any height that suits.

It fits in any car without any hassle, its the cheapest in his range and he sells loads of them, so they must be happy with them.

i have the telescopic myself, great for rock marks but i wanted something a bit more steady for the beach so im getting a 7ft super match this weekend.also recently won a parker double cup telescopic tripod and these are also fairly good and light.

Phil, are you still looking for one that floats?

What size does it fold down to?,would you fit it in a 1.95m rod bag?

Richie,

Closed it measures 1.20m, if you don't swivel the head it only measures 1.07m.

What sets Ian Golds apart from the others on the market is the quality of the aluminium and how well designed the plastic parts are. To light a weight is not good because it will bend easy or even snap.

I seen the prototype of one he will be bringing out some time next year, it is coated in black plastic, it looks pretty good 8)

Hope this helps you.
