got some good news last week so off to the beach to celebrate
had no reel-seats for the big rods so decided on the quivertips pairing them up with some fixed spools and braid for a bit of fun. picked a spot out of the wind and set up camp. i was a little optimistic so i broke out the size 8's instead of the 10's 
a fish of any description would be an achievement with a returning flounder a gift from heaven! fished one rod close 20/30yards into the shallows and one about 60/70yards.the first hour there was a lot of this
just as it started to get boring the inside rod buckled over!!! what?! a bite!!!! it went again so wound down into it. it felt alright
of course the second rod decided to start doing the hoola while i was struggling to get the first one in
a coalie on prawn and a flounder on mackeral just off 39cm.
got back out and hit another coalie instantly on maddies and mackeral then all went quiet.
an hour passed with nothing happening decided to cast down along the shore to see if it would make a difference. had a big chunk of mackeral on the bottom hook- used to get me some decent flounders on the east coast in spring. i leaned down to bait another trace and straight away a good solid pull down on the rod i had just cast. left it out until i had another trace baited. hard to ignore the bites on braid... it does make things more exciting. got it in and took another decent flounder on the mackeral chunk.
decided on one more cast to the same spot and hit a coalie fairly quick again on mackeral.
headed off after that. had 3 coalies to 27cm and 2 flounders in the highs 30's. straight mackeral took both flounders and one of the coalies with prawn and maddies taking the 2 orther coalies. lug mussel and razor never got a nibble. enjoyable session and the same fish on the heavier gear would not have been half as much fun. the small hooks saw every fish swim off strong too which is always nice
