Blast from the past
Anyone remember starting with one of these?,I rescued this lovely old relic from a skip the other day brings back memory's as a young lad on those care free summer days,anyone any idea of a brand it has 1158 and j4 written on the rod

I had one of them....plus a bright green one made of glassfibre..used a mitchell reel on it...think it was an ap40

Not sure of model, but spent many an hour as a young angler on the river Mersey, not catching a lot but enjoyed every minute. No pressure to catch back then

Anyone any idea where I might get replacement rings the same as what's on it now,I have an old Norris Shakespeare reel somewhere if I found it it would be a nice set up for old times sake

i have 2 rods the exact same as that in my shed, different colour tho. these were the first rods i ever fished with as a kid. my grand dad used to bring me out to Dun Laoughaire harbour every Sunday, and that is were the obession began.
i even caught a 13lb pike on my first ever pike trip with that rod

this is the same as my first rod but mine was red i have it 25 years, i dont think there is anything written on it anymore just a silver sticker with nothing on it

Fond memories brought back by the pic of this rod. Won my 1st competition with a similar rod off the storm wall in Ardmore in 1963. Have my father's Essex rod and a 484.
In fact I find it hard to part from any rod or reel as each has a story to tell. My fishing shed looks like a tackle shop....antiques to the most modern.
The big reels were the Penn Squiidder and Seastreak!!!
Wire line was the business when boat fishing. I think that the reel for this was a 3/0.
On the beach we had Morrit and Mithchell reels.
I used an ABU Cardinal 77 or 66 ( I think ) for spinning......both are somewhere in the shed.
Then hormones kicked in and I took a little break.....fishing for something else!!!!
