east waterford

#1 Post by thelegend »

People:myself ,bernard and ken

Duration:12pm-7.30pm

Tide:high water at 12pm

Weather:beautiful sunny day

Bait:lug, wraps,squid,crab ,mackerel

Rigs:pennel pulleys, 2 hooks clipped and 3 hook flappers

Results:codling, dabs,rockling ,flounders,whiting

Report:fished a mark that did well for me for codling last year, was a bit later than last year but decided to give it a bash anyway for some elusive cod, 3 of us were quickly baited up with me going for distance with a pulley and the 2 apprentices going in close with 3 hook flappers, i had a full wrap on and tipped with a squid strip and the 2 lads with straight lug, left mine out for 20 mins or so when the 2 lads reeled in doubles of rockling and dabs, not to be outdone i reeled in confidently with a nice bend in the rod to see a nice weedfish on the end of the line  ,laughter from the 2 lads and lots of slaggin  i persisted with the pulley for 2 hours because i had caught some fine codling here last year all the bigger ones at distance, to no avail, couldnt catch a cold the lads were saying to me, finally put on a 3 hook flapper in close and was rewarded straight away with a 32 cm codling, then next cast a treble of dab, flounder and rockling, speedfished the next 2 hours or so with plenty of flatties, whiting ,flounder and rockling, the lads got quiet ,catching a single fish here and there, amazing how nice lads get when they need a shockleader tied on  all in all we had at least 50 fish between the 3 of us and a glorious sunny day to boot :D thats the cod finished for this year methinks!, one cod is all we had but target species was caught ,a real nice days fishing overall and looking forward to summer fishing now 8)
