Re: advice on Bass fishing
Make life easy on yourself and get to an estuary, down the south if poss. Light spinning outfit and a few lures, maybe start with a shallow feed (white) and then build a preference for lures from there. Stick to bigger tides - new moons and Full moons and a few days either side. If one of these dates coincides with a nice high pressure even better. I dont want to give you too many parameters or you will be waiting all year for the ideal conditions. I have added some weekends from my own fishing diary that I intend to target, just to get you started. My favourite area to try is a rocky shallow area close to the mouth of an estuary, and early morning if poss but try different times, tides etc look for large submerged rocks or half submerged and get a lure close to them. I am also a bigger fan of low tide than full tide but thats a personal thing, every mark is different.
Dates in all of the below are weekends :
APRIL
12th, 13th, 14th April
New moon 10th
26th 27th 28th April
Full moon 26th
MAY
10th 11th 12th May
New moon 10th
June
21st 22nd 23rd June
Full Moon 23rd

New moon 10th
26th 27th 28th April
Full moon 26th

What do you think Steve..!!Steve wrote:Planning your first trip already Eoghan?!! Will probably be down there one of those April weekends myself!

We spend the year dreaming about it.
This year we are getting sea trout licenses. We have never targeted them before but this year we reckon why not.
It will be CNR but it will be handy to fall back on if the Bass arent about. April/May can be hit n miss.
Let me know if you are heading down and we'll meet up for a session or two.

Re: advice on Bass fishing
Bought my 2013 licence in Henry's yesterday - well worth a hundred quid.
Only problem is that Pat always manages to twist my arm into looking at some new rods or reels while I am there. Heading back today to pick up my extra purchases!!

True Rory. That braid I was showing you was going on my reel whether I liked it or not!!! In fairness he was right, it's class stuff, like silk.
Any luck after I left? Couldn't face going back, hands were like ice!

No joy after you left. I only had a small fishing window, so the cold wasn't too bad. The braid did feel very slick indeed. I love to hear your thoughts on it after a couple of months. Anyways, it was nice to meet you, probably see around over the spring
