West clare beach 2nd Feb

#1 Post by flounder5791 »

People: me and dad

Duration: 5-7:45

Tide: incoming

Weather:No wind but a good surf

Bait:Sandeel, blackwraps,razor,mack

Rigs:3hook flapper,2hook flapper

Results:5flounder 3 coalies

Report:
Hadnt been out in a while mainly due to the weather :/ anyway left the house around 3 and decided on a beach in west clare . Stopped off in ballyvaughan to try and dig some lug but the spot still hasnt recovered from the red tide in the summer so we kept goingand stopped in the post office in fanore to pick up some sandeels and a few bits and bobs . When we arrived at the beach the water looked like a broken teabag all coloured so we wernt to hopeful . Anyway got down on the beach and set up 2 rods one for scratching and one for any bass that might have been around . Put lug and mack strip on the scratching rod and sandeel and razor on the bass rod .... First cast resulted in a missed bite for me and a 31cm flounder for dad not 2 bad . The fishing continued on like this with another 4 flounder between 20-30cm biggest was 31cm . As it got dark coalies started to show . All small coalies between 18-21cm . 2 other lads were fishing dow from us with fresh lug but they only managed to get 1 flounder between them . Was very suprised that a 21cm coalie could fit his mouth around 3/4 of a razor on a 1/0 hook :) :) the razor was almost as long as him haha. We finished up around 7:45 as our hands had got so cold we couldnt put on the bait anymore ...... Anyway it was a good way to start 2013 and not a bad session considering the time of year :)

Good going, I think I know the spot you were in, Have meant to go there myself on a night with a high tide as a local told me it fishes well then but havnt got around to it yet. Was it Muckinish you tried digging the lug? They got an awful wipeout there this year. Pm me if you want to know another spot which wasnt affected as much, you passed it on the way.
