Donaghadee, Co Down, 21/01/2013

#1 Post by Drew »

Location: Donaghadee, Co Down.

Date: 21 01 2013

Tide: 2hrs up 1 down, seastate : Lumpy

Weather: Mother of an easterly, rain, snow, sleet.. you get the picture.

Beach/Rocks: Harbour

Baits: Just Mackeral

Rigs: 3up, 2up1down

Species caught:

3 x Tiny Codling, 1 x Pouting, 12 x smick Pollack, 1 x 30cm Pollack, 3 x 20/25cm Coalfish

Report:

I was beginning to get the shakes after not having been out since the start of this epicly cold, windy weather, the LRF gear was left at home and I broke out the Shore gear, arrived at the Dee to the sight of plumes of spray fizzing maybe 30ft into the air, the east facing walls of the pier were getting a pounding, It wasn't going to be pleasant.

Fished a 3up down the side in hope of a Rockling, sadly couldn't pick one up, but did get a dose of smick Pollack for my trouble, the rest of the fish were caught in the mouth on a 2up 1down setep, Bites were hard enough to distinguish except for the bigger Pollack and Coalies which nodded the whole way in, left myself thinking how much more fun I'd be having if the weather permitted LRF...

But sure, the fishing itch has been scratched for aother day or 2

Bad Quality, but thats one of the smaller spray plumes in the bottom right of the pic...

A Coaly/Codling double, quite likely the codling bite didn't register and the Coaly's the fish that rattled the rod tip

Good report and fair play for being out in the hard weather, only the real shore anglers brave the elements of this time of the year.
