North Antrim Beach 2 PB's. Bass and Flounder 11-01-13.
People:Michael and me
Duration:6-10pm
Tide:high tide 1840ish
Weather:Mild, light southerly wind.
Bait:Ragworm
Rigs:One long snood with 3/0 pennell, 4oz gripper lead.
Results: 3lb bass, 1.5lb flounder, a 5 bearded rockling.
Report:
Biggish surf made it difficult, 2 hours into the session and not even one definite bite detected. As high water was well past at 8pm we were going to pack up and head home when I noticed one of my lines heading away to the left up the beach at a very peculiar angle. I began to take it in and could feel the fish thump a bit and then it all went solid. What ensued was a slow and heavy dragging session as I pulled in both that 4 ounce gripper plus the one on my other rod, both lines had become tangled with each other. At least the thumps from the fish let me know there was a fish attached and a decent one too.
Michael assisted by getting a hold of the bass as it came within reach, a fine 3lber in perfect order. Actually a PB bass for me, beating the one I got a month ago by an ounce. After admiring this lovely fish I had to hand line in the remainder of my other line which was still in the water. It felt a bit heavier than it should. It had a very nice 39cm flounder on it. Another PB with the fish weighing less than an ounce off 1.5lb.
We stuck at it until 10pm but the only other fish caught was a 5b rockling by Michael. The new moon is today, will be interesting to see if anything happens on tonights tide. I almost forgot, Michael did a session on his own on Thursday evening at the same beach and returned a bass of around a pound also on the ragworm.

Re: North Antrim Beach 2 PB's. Bass and Flounder 11-01-13.
nice one its a hard shift up there

Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's just too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.
