west cork bass day to rememeber

#1 Post by sandblaster »

People:

Duration:

Tide:1st hour of flood to 1st hour of ebb

Weather:strong southerly mostly dry

Bait:lugworm

Rigs:pulley pennell 3/0

Results:3 bass

decided to go dig some lug this morning and head to west cork in search of bass
got to 1st mark about one hour into flood greeted by a lovely surf 1st cast produced a bass of 2.5lb so confidence was up.next cast produced a thumping take and after a great drag testing battle i landed my best bass in 2 years almost to the day! a cracker of a fish well over 10lb -happy new year, got some photos and put her back.fished here for an other hour -no more takes so moved as this mark only fishes at the start of the tide .went to 2nd mark not too far away and fished for a couple of hours without a touch but hey i didn't mind! with plenty of bait left i decided to try a 3rd mark nearby that fishes at the top of the tide, got there about 1.5 hours before high water .all was quiet for the first 2 hours after witch the top section of the rod was pulled over and just stayed down -i was in to what felt like a good fish that decided to run like hell in my direction! when i got the fish in close it turned back out towards the sea pulling long lengths of line from my reel drag.it was dark now and after a lengthy fight i managed to get my headlamp on him and i could not believe my eyes-it was another monster bigger than the one i landed earlyer in the day a clonker heading for 12lb and as fat as a pig -some quick photos and back she went -what a day see links to pictures below.looks like 2013 may well be a bass year1
