Greystones Harbour, Co Wicklow, 28-12-12

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:Me and Roger

Duration:7pm-10-45pm

Tide:HW 11pm approx

Weather:mild,wet later

Bait:frozen lug, mack, sandeel and fresh lug

Rigs:2 and 3 hook flappers

Results:Whiting, Rockling, Pouting, Pollock, Flounder,,,,,Roger also had Shore Rockling and Sea Scorpions

Report:Thursday 28th looked like being the best night of the weekend weatherwise so I decided to head out fishing, this time to Greystones Harbour. Met Roger in the car park in the Harbour and we quickly baited up and cast out. There was another angler arriving as we got there and we found 2 guys already set up, so there was plenty of room . I set up 2 rods and put one bait in the channel and dropped the other down the wall. The 2 guys left shortly after we arrived and the other angler , who was casting out to sea, was soon in with a treble of 2 5 beards and a whiting, followed by a double soon after . Myself and Dodger soon got in on the act and the fish thankfully obliged us for most of the night. Dodger got a beauty of a shore rockling at 36cms and fat to boot while my best fish were pollock and Flounder,,in the late 20's cms. Plenty of other species to be had, including Whiting, Sea Scorpions, Pouting and 5 beard Rockling. We both had a couple of one eyed fish,,,,possibly as a result of being caught and returned, who knows  ,,the fish were keeping tight lipped about it  . I found that my best bait was frozen lug , or shoelaces as Roger calls them, tipped with mack. It seemed to outfish the fresh lug.The rain started to fall for the last hour , but we were well kitted out for it and it thankfully wasn't too heavy. We both ran out of bait at the same time and headed home about 10-45pm,,,,,,with me having once again lost 2 rigs to the snaggy ground
