recommended rod length for beginers

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

anything 13ft or under should be easily managed but be wary of the cheaper end of the market as they tend to be heavy and have thick grips which will make it akward to hold and wear the arms off you after a very short time .The shakespear salt bass rod would be a good start if your fishing clean ground im sure its under twelve foot aswell

I started shore fishing this year and I'm using that set :
http://www.decathlon.co.uk/surf-classic ... 32692.html

It's 13 ft long (3.9 m). It's light and easy to use in all the situations I encountered on the east coast (pier, beach, rocks). However, I'm not sure how it would perform in heavy surf.

In addition, it's compact when folded. I use it about once a week and it's still working fine. I found it to be a good value (Decathlon's brands are known for that in France).

I have to mention that I haven't much comparison points...
