Ailroe shore

#1 Post by Crack-Off »

Hi guys,

First post. Myself and a mate fished Ailroe shore last May and August.
In May we fished 2 hours up and 2 down...

In August we fished 2 up and 4 down...

We thought conditions were ideal as the estuary was flat calm.
Whacking mackerel , sandeel and peeler baits out around 100-120 yds.

End Result. 1 measly flounder.

Any help would be grately appreciated as we hope to return in the spring for some catch n release Ray fishing.

Try fishing it each side of low tide. Results should be different.

I can't say I fished the mark much as I've heard of too many anglers blanking there. I know it can produce as I heard scound hand of anglers doing well there. I heard some visiting anglers I tried to help had some small huss there but they didn't bother getting back to me about how there trip went which I have to say I didn't think much of.

If you get in contact when you're going I can try and point you in the right direction as long as you let me know how you goy on. Personaly I would go just wacking a bait a distance would be the way to go on most of the estuary marks. I generaly use a large bait and vary casting distance but a 60 or 70 yard cast is usually all you need.

That place is not the best mark in the estuary the more regular marks fish much better its a waste of time fishing that mark if your traveling from Wexford its up to your self but being a local I avoid that place it fishes in flashes of loads of fish one day then you could fish it for 7 days in a row and not even a bite.

Yeah we travelled over twice last year and only pulled a flounder outta it .

Say we fished about 11 hours over the two visits..
So we went to Kilkee and went on the beer for the night...

Be interested to hear of any other good ray and huss marks Nelius.

Cheers
