Illegal bass and net seizures off the Waterford and Wexford coast
Inland Fisheries Ireland has in the last week seized illegally caught Bass off the Wexford coast and illegal fishing nets off the Waterford coast. While the specifics of these cases are not being released for legal and operational reasons it is often the flexibility and dedication of IFI staff that lead to these successes.
These types of seizures are often initiated following significant covert, intelligence led, policing operations which are carried out during both day and night time. In both instances off-duty fisheries staff quickly mobilised to execute the seizures.
The regional Director at Inland Fisheries Ireland praised the dedication of the staff in executing the seizures and described the seizures as very important in the protection of Ireland’s Bass, Salmon and Sea Trout resource. It is widely known that illegal fishing could have devastating consequences on our valuable fishery resource. Anyone who has information relating to illegal fishing activity can contact IFI 24 hours a day by phoning 1890 34 74 24.

Good stuff, thanks for posting Jim. It's the first time I've heard of a positive action like this. Is it as common as it could be / needs to be do people think? From reading the recent thread about poaching in Rosslare, it seems people had a dim view of the proactivity of the IFI in this regard.

hidden c.c.t.v should be set up at spot of nets and find out who these people are. then u can get them in court and sort them out

GREAT NEWS..WELL DONE TO THE IFI..BRILLIANT WORK..

I have a feeling some of these guys will be back at it to pay the fines...

Its good to know that reports are acted upon by the hard working IFI guys and gal's
