J.S. MULLAN. PORTRUSH

#1 Post by Boyd A »

With the passing of Joe Mullan last week, Ireland lost a great and passionate sea angler and tourism ambassador.
I was priviliged to have known him for almost 50 years, as a friend, and competition rival traveling the length and breadth of Ireland and overseas: and also served with him on both the Ulster Provincial and Central Councils of the I.F.S.A..
A man of great generosity and support, in the boat, on the shore, and in the bar, he will be sadly missed.
It has been suggested that I post this to the forum, in the hope that others will join the thread, and possibly turn it into a "book of condolences " for his children and grandchildren.

joe will be missed greatly by all on the sea angling community especially in ulster to which he served for many years and from what ive been told was one of the pioneers of sea angling up north. he also provided a great service in his shop in portrush, if you needed a part for a reel or that it wasnt a case of him having to send for it most times, he just went into a drawer and produced it for you. i didnt have the pleasure of knowing him for that long before he took ill but was always helpful and always had time for a chat.
rest in peace joe.

Only had the pleasure of meeting Joe once in the 1970's. I was on holiday at the time, and was keen to do a bit of fishing. When in the shop, I was given good, (and generous advice), about the area, decent skippers, and anything else I happened to mention.
Yes, Joe Mullan R.I.P, a true gentleman of angling.
