I am over in the west [Clew Bay area] for a the first couple of weeks in May.
What species can I expect to catch at that time both shore and small boat?

fishing Clew Bay in May
May is a turning point in the year, if the weather is fine, you can expect more species to be available but it has been very mild all winter...
Shore: all the flatfish, weeverfish, some thornies, salmon and sea trout on certain estuaries, wrasse, pollack and coalfish (the latter chasing the sand eels inshore) and all the usual resident suspects like conger, huss and dogfish. Mullet may arrive early in warm weather as can Mackerel but it depends on the mark. Clew Bay tends to lag behind true Atlantic marks, so you might be better trying further south towards Clifden...
Boats: boating will put you in touch with Cod, Haddock and Whiting and you can tackle the Skate with MGH. Main benefit of boat is the bigger average size of fish. Brill and Turbot in amongst the islands
