People: Neilus and me

Duration: 6-10pm

Tide: Neap low at 7pm

Weather: blustery, wet but mild

Bait: Sand eel, squid, mackerel, prawn and slugs!!!

Rigs: paternosters, pulleys and running ledgers

Results: 2lb coalfish, rockling over a 1lb, around 10 white pollack from between 30 and 40cms and many tiny pollack and whiting

Report:No bites on the ledger for conger except for the rockling only tiny whiting at range no doggies or ray. Most fish got between under your feet and 20yards out. Only one fish which was lost at range and was cast out well to the seaward side. Plenty of big spiders dropping off at the last minute and cutting snoods. Alot of the better pollack fell to slug neilus found on the pier.

slugs!

Jaysus...

I always knew that slugs were a phenomenal freshwater bait - easily the best thing going - but never knew you could use them in the sea!

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Donagh,
Were they sort of speckly slugs? The old Teelin pier at night time was heaving with them but never thought of trying them for the fish.

Couldn't tell ye but the fish were taking anything thrown in the water so I wouldn't read to much into it.
