Angling Boat
Hi lads,
I'm thinking of getting a 18 - 20 footer for a bit of harbour angling, lures jigging bait etc.
im lookin to spend about E3500. I'm in Dingle Co. Kerry and know the peninsula backwards and inside out so im looking for a fairly portable cabined vessel. Does anybody have any suggestions on what kind of boat i should be looking at.
Also i'd like to be able to cope in a bit of swell so i can move out to the mouth of the harbour if i'm not getting any luck inside.
Any advice much appreciated,
thanks

Re: Angling Boat
That's absolutely perfect! Exactly what I'm after that's around 19ft is it? Just hard to find the bigger dorys around the place they're usually only about 16ft anywhere I can find them. Do you reckon your vessel would cope with two or three foot chop?
Thanks for your reply

Re: Angling Boat
Really it looks much bigger then that! It's a lovely lookin boat I must say, how many people would fish out of it comfortably? And do you mind me asking what size motor you have on her?
Thanks for all the info mate it's very helpful

Re: Angling Boat
its a 60hp yamaha on it, dose 30mph flat out, we use it at 19 20mph for fuel economy. we have fished 3 out of it a few times with no problems
Re: Angling Boat
the pilots are a great sea boat a mate of mine has one.
been caught out in very bad weather and never had any probs.
theres a nice 590 on done deal at the moment,
now that would be a very good one as its over 2ft longer.

Re: Angling Boat
Oh ya? Didn't come across that in daily trawl of donedeal, I might be upping my budget but I think I'm gonna go for a dory if an 18footer comes up I was talking to lad here with one and said that it's never put a foot wrong!
I'll keep looking anyways and keep ye posted on any purchase.

Re: Angling Boat
Ya I saw that one and really tickled my fancy, that's why i'm thinking of upping my budget but at the same time a couple of very nice boats have popped up for far less then they're worth so I'm thinkin that by the end of August the prices will drop with the demand?
Or would people be likely to not bother selling after summer?
Have made a few calls about possible boats but some owners really didn't have a notion about what they were selling or maybe I'm being contrary!

Re: Angling Boat
hard to know if the what way the prices would go.
some people seem to hang on till its nearer the season before they sell.
that 590 seems alot of boat for the money as the pilot 17 seem to get around 3500 to 4000 and wouldnt half as much deck space.

Re: Angling Boat
Ya it's a gorgeous boat and you get the whole shebang with her but there's a lot of dosh there. Five and a half is a lot of cash to young man like myself.
I'd say the seller will get his five grand all day for that and I don't have that much to spare (unless I've won the euro millions tonight)

Re: Angling Boat
ive an open dory 17ft its has plenty of deck space 50hp honda fourstroke ,sometimes the cabin does be too big on some of those boats.i have plenty of space for 3 or 4.a good winter suit is better than a cabin.much lighter on fuel then.we often fish over 15 or 20 miles out near the aran islands.im hoping to change mine next year because i want to fish further out again we get big swells here.hopeing to get a 18ft raider maybe if i sell this one.been caught out in a f5 before and it was real rough but never was in trouble wouldnt recommend it,i was just a bit of a green horn at d time checking forecasts.

Re: Angling Boat
Ya I've seen a few open dorys but I think a good cabin would be handy to lock the rods and tackle in when it's tied up? Would you get out that far on it? I wouldn't have thought they'd get very far out to sea! We'd get our fair deal of high seas here off the blaskets as well, itd be three or four foot swells on a good day (which are becoming increasingly rare) the main purpose I have for it really is to be able to putter around a few marks in the harbour and make it as far as ventry to take my friend diving there, and a few marks i have out there aswell. Only about Five or six mile trip but with a stiff wind we get very bad chop outside the harbour mouth?

Gave him a ring and has tiller controls steering the lot, put something seems fishy, he was very eager to get rid of it ASAP! Said he'd take 15 if I took it away tomorrow!

According to his info the boats been sitting in the garden since 2010 so them pics are two years old? Ya I might go up friday or Saturday and see how things go. Could stop off in lough Allua then for a bit of pike fishing.
we'll see how things go.
