Catch rates really up and down

#1 Post by bazzer74 »

Is anybody (particularly in Co.Antrim but would be intrested to hear how the rest of the island is going) noticing extreme fluctuations in the number of fish they are catching recently?

Thankfully we have no "red tide" up here and I've been lucky enough to have had four runs out in the past week.

Wednesday 7pm-3am. 2 anglers. 1 rockling, 1 pout and few dogs. RUBBISH.
Thursday 1pm-6pm. 2 anglers. Lots of ballans and corkwings,1 cuckoo wrasse, 5 pollack,5 codling,7 coalie and 3 conger (biggest 21lb). BRILLIANT.
Friday 7pm-1am. 2 anglers. Lots of ballans,codling,pollack and a few conger(straps).GOOD.
Saturday 6pm-1am. 4 anglers. 2 dogs,1 small huss and 1 rockling.DISASTER.

While we fished four different marks, all were within 10 mins of each other and were all of a similiar nature (deep water and mixed ground). The weather has been fairly settled and tides were small all week.

Usually in July up here, the fishing is pretty consistent. I would be interested to see if anyone else is noticing these variations and maybe suggest a reason for them.
