fish fest

#1 Post by Tom H »

Well got out a few nights ago in what seems like ages do some off my favorite lure fishing. Started of Sunday night about 8-ish pm to catch the last of the ebb tide. As I walked down to the mark I could see sea trout jumping so on with a small metal jig needless to say I blanked with them but thats the way it go,s with sea trout some times as we all know. As the tide stated to flood the weed stated to show (not to bad) so it was time to get the the other rod on the go with a texas rigged Hogy sand eel with a 3.5g cone head on its nose. Cast out into the tide rip and let the sp swing around to my right bouncing bottom as it went as it came to rest on the sand I just let it sit there for a bit then it was a case of tapping the rod to give the sp some life and one turn of the reel handle and repeat. Must have moved the lure about 3 feet like this and got hit (read rod slammed over) but what ever it was never got hooked. Same thing next two casts as well to say I was on edge would be a understatement! Went dead for half a hour or so then i started to get some small taps on the Hogy as it was sitting on the sand bank. But still I could not hit them. What ever it was nipping at the tail end of the lure was taking a small chunks of the tail with each hit I lost two lures to what ever it was. If it had been daylight I would say wrasse were responsibil but as it was pitch black by this time??? Time to put on my last hogy I had with me and got a coalfish of about 1.75lb on it (photo) . But then I lost that lure to a snag. Re riged again but this time with a 3.5 inch Senko in a red flack watermelon color with a 1/0 offset hook again with the 3.5g cone head. From the first cast with it was hit after hit from coalfish.
The first one was the smallest but as the night went on they got bigger up to say about 3lb or so. ended up with 30 odd of them!!!! packed up at 2am as I had to get up for work in the morning. Monday night was a lot slower did not start to after 10pm first fish was a pollack of about a pound or so again on the Senko it was the first one I have ever seen from this mark. Went on to land 9 coalfish to 2.5lb with lost of hits I could not hit at all. Must say it was two great night fishing and them coalfish went like stink on the light savage gear drop shot rod with 10lb braid!
