I used to fish on a trawler about 30 miles off Achill too, out beside the gas rig, in waters sometimes over 1000 fathoms deep, and have often seen these box crabs come aboard, although as far as the ray goes I have never seen anything like it.

damm it that all we need on the west coast,more ray and bigger crabs :roll: :roll: :lol: still it nice to see some new species showing up around the place,the ray went a long way from home for his summer holidays

yeah eagle ray, one was caught off south coast of england a few years backif i mind right, think there is a shimano missionrecord or something for it, big one it was too!

there are reports of eagle rays being netted in the Shannon estuary if you fancy a challenge! 100 lbs + not uncommon...

used to fish about 30/40 miles off achill, never seen one of thoses rays but alway got loads of them box crabs big fellas they were too.
