Barley Cove

Hi All

I am heading down to Barley Cove at the end of July. Was hoping to do a bit of bass fishing , has anyone got any pointers for where to fish and what type of lures to use

I fish Barley Cove late Aug - early Sep every year.
I reckon u will find it difficult to lure fish there due to the volume of surfers during the day, however an extremely interesting bit of beach to fish.
Normally use bait, however, see no reason that lures WOULD NOT WORK early mornings (the surfers really hang on till its dark, when I fish it.
The beach itself is very prone to moving about and can vary after heavy blows best viewed first from the clifftop opposite the Hotel/letting complex (when u see it youll know what I mean) at low tide, Normally, from the deep water, upto a sand bar, then a deep depression, then onto
the beach. The actual stream mouth normally has a deep hole where it runs into the sea, again early morning.
You could try the pier, up towards the Head, need to turn left on the Head road followed by another left, (best thing u consult the
angling guide for the area) I believe it was a farm. Access is easy park up, on the left, before the (copper coloured) house and walk down to the pier.
You cant take a car down there. No surfers, shallower water and I'm sure the bass would work along there at the right time of tide.
If u use bait lug is available at Toormore or White Sands just across from the Caravan site.
U can also try the deep beach nearer the campsite which the surfers dont use, which I have never fished but intend to this year

Hi

There is a small outlet (fresh water) on the eastern side of the beach around a feature which I think is called "the chimney" (memory is corrupted!) and this small water source is a hotspot so long as the tide is on the turn in from low up - water can be a bit mucky with recent rain which is not good so ideally you need a dry period and relatively calm conditions around dawn/dusk.

Bait will also take giltheads here (not done it myself but a local reckons they are resident now).
