Arklow south beach

#1 Post by JPA »

People: me and a friend

Duration: 7 am - 11 am

Tide: low at 7 am

Weather: nice but windy

Bait: Ragworms, frozen sandeels and mac

Rigs: 2 Hooks flapper (size 2) for me, lures and 1 hook rig (size 2) for the friend

Results: 5-6 whitings, 2 dogfishs, 1 pup smooth hound for me and 1 pup smooth hound for the friend

Report: Up at 5 am and on the road to Arklow. We tried to be there at low tide to get a rising tide. I had nice fat and fresh ragworms from Alan and had great expectations for flatfishs and some secret dreams of bass (even small) after a quick chat with Alan. But the fishing was rather slow. Some withings at distance, mainly on the fish baits, nothing that I couldn't have get from a beach nearer from home. Nothing on lures for the friend. But then he got a small smooth hound on a ragworm. He wasn't impressed... just a dogfish with another color for him ! But I was delighted to see a new specie on our list. I got 2 dogfishs before I got my own pup smooth hound. As our set up was light, we move along the beach from the middle to the end opposite to the pier. But this made no difference.
