Donegal & Sligo, May 21 ,24, 29 & June 6th 2012

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People: Myself & the Missus

Duration: Between two & three hours each session

Tide: Stranding & Filling

Weather: Warm sunny with a light South easterly , Wet & Windy

Bait: Frozen Lug & Mack

Rigs: Spinner & Two hook Flappers

Results: 14 Mackerel, 3 Pollock, 3 Flounder

Report:

May 21st

Haven’t had a chance to stick up a report in a while so I’ll start with the most recent trips with the first which was meant to be a Wrasse session but the only problem was the Wrasse were know where to be seen  I tried every good deep pool & Gully around but not a Wrasse in sight so after two hours I changed over to a spot of spinning & that was though going as well I was almost looking at my second blank  of the session only to get a lone Mackerel on the second last cast :D

May 24th

Myself & the Missus were down in Donegal for a drive & I talked her in to giving a nearby beach a go for a couple of hours so picked up some bait & made our way across a packed strand & got set up with the usual one rod at distance & the other in close. Not a bite for two & half hours  then I got a good knock on the distance rod ran over & reeled in a lovely plump Flounder just under the 40cm mark 8) Then I get a great bite on the other rod only to lose the fish at the last minute which I think was a good size Trout

May 29th

Headed to a rock mark in search of some Pollock but the sea was flat calm with not a ripple you could see the bottom but luckily a shoal of Sand eels & fry came in close followed by some hungry Mackerel, I landed thirteen & three Pollock to just over two pound weight But missed a lot more better fish :x I have to say it was some sight watching the Mackerel & odd Trout picking off the bait fish 8)

June 6th

Tried a beach mark in Donegal for few hours there was nice surf rolling but fishing was slow with just two Flounder to show for three hours but was great to be out roll on the next session

Lean times Fisherking! I'm surprised you didn't manage even a few small wrasse. I haven't had a shore session in a while; I've been out in the boat a few times during the settled weather and among other fish, I picked up 4 - 5 ballan wrasse over some rough ground in 60 - 80 feet, perhaps they haven't moved inshore to the shallow water just yet. Nice photos as usual.
