ANOTHER ANTRIM ROCK MARK OUT THE WAY

#1 Post by nicki d »

People: CHARLOTTE, DENISE AND MYSELF

Duration: 12 hours ish

Tide: DOWN AND UP

Weather: STUNNING

Bait: LURES AND MACKERAL

Rigs:

Results: 30 MACKEREL 6 COALIES 5 POLLOCK

Report:

Family day out, and headed to a nice rock mark to fish and enjoy the sunshine.
We fished with lures and float fished some mackerel and sandeels. As you can see we didnt do to badly, but the mark is still not fishing well. There are no small coalies and pollock about at all and i put this down to the rape of our waters by the people who take every small fish to put in the pot.
I could catch about 50 small coalies and pollock at this time of the year from this mark and returning them all its great fun fishing for the family, but this whole year so far, nothing to speak about and sometimes not even a bite.
I have said this day would come when i watch the bags full of undersized fish being taken each day on every mark i visit by our foreign friends who have rapped thier own country of fish and are now doing it to ours.
A friend of mine said to me years ago that this would happen also and all that would be left would be dog fish but they also are targeted and have been getting harder to catch.
Rant over with.
Hope to get some picks up soon because i broke my camera.
nearly forgot the nice shark that decided to make a nice two fin pass when i had gutted the mackerel. i first shouted basking shark but head was different and it was to big for a tope so not sure what it was. good to see such a big thing swim by your face and scare the wife and wane.lol

It was a great day to fish yesterday.
Its the whole coast i havent seen the smaller fish about. Used to take charlotte onto the pontoon at portrush watching the small pounting, wrasse coalies, pollock, scorpions etc taking the ground bait and having charlotte catching them on small hooks. Now because others are doing the same excect keeping them.
If the smaller fish arent about there will be now bigger fish in years to come to breed again, so there becomes no fish at all

It was a funny day yesterday with no fish feeding where I was. I only got a few doggies all night and no other bites at the exact same mark 2 days previous where I had Bullhuss, Coalies, Pollack, Wrasse, Rockling, Doggies, Plaice, Flounder, Codling and non-stop bites. This was with better conditions and a higher tide too. I was expecting it to be amazing again but it was just dead.

thats about a years worth of fish to me  if i get 1 fish i consider myself lucky
i think i need to hunt out some better spots as i only go to well known places and they are probably fished out.

i saw alot of small 2 inch fish about last week when i was at runkerry which might be a good sign for the future.

It must be my local marks that are affected. I know one of my spots I need to get down about 6 or 7am to fish anytime of the day after posting up the pictures of the mark a few years ago

hi nick - I've noticed that more of the plastic bag brigade are about this year!! cant put all the blame on them but I'm sure its not a coincidence, seeing they have cleaned out the ports and surrounding areas I'd say some of the further out marks are now being targeted.
in saying that the fishing hasn't been great this last two months so maybe its an all round trend this year.

Was out myself and the fishing was very poor. Passed Waterfoot on the way round to the mark and saw at least 20 people on it! Another guy turned up at the mark I was on and told me he had stopped to have a chat on the pier and surprise surprise you guessed it!!! Our friends from the eastern block with plastic bags full of small dabs, flounder, plaice, coalie etc so I guess the fishing is better for some of us  , but no point dwelling on the subject when the EU and trawlermen are doing more damage in a week than these "lovely and thoughtful fishermen fro" have done since their arrival..... I am obivously not speaking on behalf of the course fishermen who are now fishing empty puddles of water throughout Ireland in search for the elusive pike or as our friends from the east call them "Sunday Roast". Anyhow I digress, hope things pick up for us all out there in the next few months  tight lines Aaron

Mod edit: some remarks removed!!
Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's just too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.

2010- Sea Trout, Codling, Pollock, Coalie, Whiting, Flounder, Doggies, Plaice, Dab.

great session nicki. always good to get a family day out and get a bit of action :P
as for the marks getting hammered and pics giving them away, i hear ya man  some of our favourite causeway wrasse marks have been destroyed the past few summers
but a beach towel hides rocks, sand and pebbles in all the pics to keep the mini munchers guessing as to where we fish  :D
sadly it's a must these days
