Bad handling of fish.

#1 Post by tinto »

Came across this clip of some young lads in Youghal treating a large grey mullet like absolute s**t, a fish which is caught for sport should be treated with the utmost respect, handled properly and released with care. Not f**cked out of a basin, half its scales missing from being dragged across concrete, down a teen foot plus drop which could only serve to cause the poor fish even more stress. Shocking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dj2c_ot9wg

Kids will be kids. It looks like a bunch of teens out fishing, but as they age we can only hope the understand why they need to handle fish right....

Also looks like they were afraid to touch it.

I have seen bigger lads handle fish worse then the kids in the video,it was probably the first mullet they ever caught and didn't know what to do with it
don't make a big deal about the handling of the fish when it was great to see the young lads release the mullet again,I have seen loads of young lads fishing and most of them would keep everything they caught

It's hardly shocking now! Have a look at Syria, thats shocking, lets not fuel the notion that fishing is barbaric, there are enough idiots out there with that idea already without anglers adding insult to injury!

Its probably their first fish and they are kids!!!

Lads when I was a kid, my uncle taught me to fish, he also taught me how to clean and gut them, BUT he also taught me about having respect for them as well, as aged fishermen like ourselves i thinks its important to help the younger generation and teach them all the aspects of fishing including the respect of fish. In this vid though as someone else mentioned, it really looks like they were a afraid to touch the mullet.

kids do need to be shown how to catch and treat all fish.if they are not shown what to do -they will be scared to touch and handle them. :?:
i would always advise the wise fishermen to spare 5 mins if they see young people fishing and help them out.theres a lot of people who would love to fish but are scared as they would not know the first thing about it  .......share your knowledge and you never know what will evolve from it.......
