red cod

i had a few red cod at the weekend and Im just wondering are they a different species or are they just coloured from the habitat ?

same species mate. they are resident in kelp and obtain their lovely bright red colour from there
they hang around the kelp instead of travelling around the place in the larger shoals like most other cod. i guess that they are born in the kelp and stay there, or that they get separated form the main shoal and decide that they like the idea of living and feeding in the kelp.. :mrgreen:

cheers bud.We had four over the weekend amongst a few traditional cod and I was wondering what to do with them so they all went back to fight another day.indeed a beautiful fish .

Alway plenty of them to be found inshore this time of the year.
You'll find crab the better bait for catching them

we didn't pick up much on crab but had a field day on savage gear plastic paddle tails.The few we did keep were absolutely stuffed with crab and shrimp.Picked up a pb 10lber. :)
