jig heads

i will be using xlayers, what is the best weight of jighead to use with these, they are the 110mm and other lures that are similar to xlayers 120mm long.

any help much appreciated.

3.5g to 7g i find best mate bachi decoy the best jig heads around;-)

Any thing from 3g up to 15g if there is a real tide rip + deep water. Also depends on what depth and how deep you need the jigs to run. As Andrew says 3/7g would be the norm.

Weight will be a relative thing! It will depend on where you are fishing and how you are fishing. It will start with your rod & reel setup – what can it cast? If you’re using a std spinning rod with mono you will suffer a bit! A rod designed for purpose, thin braided line and you will be able to do more, especially casting the lighter heads.

Where are you fishing? If you need distance then the lighter heads might struggle (see rod & reel). You might be in locations where texas rigs might be the order of the day. You may even fish weightless!

Where I fish it tends to be a trade off between getting to/keeping contact with the bottom and the requirement for distance when casting. I end up using 7-20g most often. Then of course you have the boat fishing scenario…
