Dingle / Smerick area

#1 Post by Caz-Galway »

Hi all,

We are having a 'two' family holiday in the Smerick area for a week in early August. My buddy and I will be able to get out for one day inshore fishing as we have a RIB we are taking with us. We would love to try and target some Bass with lures for the few hours we are able to 'escape' . Would anyone be kind enough to point us in the direction that may give us a chance. I know the area very well and know most of the launching spots but a bit of inside information would be greatly appreciated and will remain confidential if required.

Many thanks

Hi There,

If you are launching out of dingle you could head back down the inner bay towards inch/rossbeigh and further in to cromane. You would be best hitting this area an hr before hw and leaving aprox two hrs after hw. If you can get the rib to go slow enough you could tow lures on the way down too.

You didnt mention how big your rib us if its very small probably best to lauch somewhere closer as if the weather blows up if can be nasty in the bay...............

Best of luck..............

Hi Barney,

Thanks for the reply. Its an open 5m RIB so quite able to take a bit of weather but we'll only be going out if its suitable. I know theres a few Bass to be had in the area you mentioned but its a bit of a haul from Dingle to up the bay. Was hoping there was a few local marks around Dingle or Smerwick. With limited time we did not want to go searching. Its not that important that we catch, just to get out and know we'd be in the right area with a chance of a Bass.

Thanks again for the reply though.

Does it have to be bass? There is some good mixed fishing in Smerwick for pollock, wrasse, codling etc.

If it hass to be bass then launch at wine strand and you can lure fish or drift with sandeels off the beaches there.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't have to be Bass but its one of the few fish that I have not caught and I would love to break my duck. I will give your suggestion a go and thanks again.
