best conger rod

Hi all, When I,m out on the rocks I normally throw out a rod for the conger, I really do love the fising for them, the rachet, the weight , the sport etc etc but the rod I normally use is just an old ron thompson dialex 7' boat rod, mostly because its rough and ready and dont mind abusing it by wedging it into rock crevises etc out of the way of the beach casters, though it is a bit short for playing a decent conger, esp if I happen to have made the rig a bit too long, also if it happens to be in the background of any pictures I post I sometimes (and understandably) get questions about it almost wondering was the fish caught on from a boat and then landed for a photo.
So to get to the point of all this can you recommend a suitable rod for the job, not ridiculosly expensive as the conger rod does tend to get a bit of abuse on the rocks as mentioned above. Thanks

you could try a 6-8oz boat uptider, gives you that little extra length for the cast and shouldn't break the bank, or if you can get your hands on secondhand quality stuff like the Abu Souveran XP, Conoflex Nemesis (Plus), Conoflex Highlander, Greys pz300t or any decent stiff 7-8oz beachcaster capable of lashing out your bait and terminal tackle to where you want it to be then you are a winner.

i use a greys apollo mk1 14ft for all this sort of stuff but if yer looking for a cheapish rod for conger the penn ruffstuff 14ft is ideal this has more than enough power to drag even the biggest of conger out of their hiding holes an as i said they are fairly cheap ive seen them on this 2nd hand for as little as 50 euro.. i used to own one and i can tell ya they are really great when heavy winching is involved ..

I used to use boat rods but find it a lot more sporting using a rock rod/nemisis plus/kompressor super sport and so on

I like uptiders too, a bit more length and decent power depending on the model. I know its a little off topic but have you tried those mini tripods for congering? Much prefer those to wedging nice uptiders between rocks

i used to use my shakespeare bass rod.was well able for it and at 11ft 6 it was handy for the congers on the piers as it made it easier to coax the conger out of his hole etc.getting another one now so gonna give the congers a go soon

I use an ugly stik 5-10 oz uptider. i agree a boat rod is a bit short, but i find beachcasters too long and awkward. make no mistake this uptider is a beast. there is a lighter version availible but i went for the stronger one. its handy as it allows you to cast full mackerel baits easily.
