Antrim Rocks, 08/04/12

#1 Post by Drew »

People: Brian(yngkmd) and Drew

Tide: Over Low

Weather: Showers, Calming down though

Bait: Rag and Mack

Rigs: 2up1down, Loops, Float, Lures

Results:

From Memory
Brian had Plaice, Dogfish and a PB Flounder at 33cm
I had 2 Plaice, A Seatrout and a Codling

Report:

With crappy weather predicted I didn't think I'd be heading up the coast, but after moping about the house for a few hours I decided I'd go somewhere, a wee phonecall to Brian and we were on our way, got to our intended mark to find plenty of people on it, must have been a match or something, so a rethink was in order, I knew of another rock mark another mile or so up the road, so it was back into the car, Arrived to find the mark deserted so we hastily got down there and set up, I opted for a loop at distance and a 2up1down at closer range. Brian was fishing a 1up1down close and a float along the edge of the weeds.

Minor disaster first cast as my reel blew up and I snapped a rig off, but soon I had the reel changed over and another rig at the same distance. As I finally got my gear in, Brian retrieved his first cast to find a plump 33cm flounder, a few photographs and it was released none the worse for wear, turned round to see my light beach rod bouncing away, it was definitely a round, but then it went slack, I thought it had got off, but I caught up with the fish again about 10 yds out, a brief tussle and a little seatrout was soon on the deck.

We thought it was the beginning of a corking session, but in honesty it was a slow oul trudge from there on in, one of the best moments of the evening was brians flattie rod nearly being dragged in by a turbo charged Dogfish, Good night to be out... and the perfect excuse to stop at the Galley in Carnlough on the way home... 8)

Nice fishing guys.

There was a roving competition in the Red Bay area on Sunday so thats probably why you weren't able to fit into your first wee spot.

Any joy on the lures?

no but it was over pure sand so wasnt expecting anything any way, thought a rubber sandeel might have tempted a sea trout after drew caught one but only gave it a half arsed attempt and not for very long, might have had more luck\confidence on the other side over the weed and rocks.

Well done lads, i was down that way about a month ago, left newry sun shining arrived in larne and it was lashing. The rocks near glenarm was too dicey with the weather and there was a comp on in glenarm, so i tried carnlough and got a few small flatties. Nice to see a report from that direction, might give it another go soon. Well done on the P.B.
Good things come to those who bait.
