recommend three lures
I want to buy three new bass lures this week. I have pretty much made up my mind what I want but want to know what everyone else recommends first. The marks I want these for are low tide kelpy/reefy kind of nasty places so I want one surface and two subsurface lures. I dont want to have to send to Japan for them, no other constraints.

Re: recommend three lures
No better boy than myself to lose a lure. so i got myself a tackle house feed shallow in jan and have been a lot and still have it.i have lost 3 or 4 lures in a session which can become a costly business but the feed shallow seem to be a great lure for me the only thing i have yet to nail a fish on it.

For fishing low water kelpy marks you're better off fishing soft plastics set up weedless. Slug-go's should do the job.

My list:
1. Tackle House Feed Shallow
2. Illex Water Monitor
3. Xorus Asturie
If it is hard bodied lures you want then the Feed Shallow is No.1
A good very shallow swimmer is the Illex Water Monitor - (but it sinks so need to keep it moving over snaggy ground)
A good surface lure is the under-rated Asturie - I have caught more bass on that than any other surface lure.

Re: recommend three lures
Feed Shallow, IMA Sasuke and definitely some SP's for really snaggy, kelpy ground, rigged weedless, slug go's, senkos, waveworms all do the biz.

Everyone should believe in something; I believe I’ll go fishing.

Feed Shallow was top of my list after your success with it. Is the ayu any good as we get loads of small pollack round the rocks.RockHunter wrote:My list:

Is there anywhere in Ireland that can compete with the UK sites for price and service?
deadline for replies is tomorrow morning as I want the lures for the weekend.
I will get a few senkos but at the moment I am blown away by the movement of the savagear sandeel slugs. It is primarily hard bodied lures I am looking for this time thanks.

I can second the savage gear sandeels for using soft plastics. Had my biggest bass of last year 5lb
on the sandeels.

Top ten hard lures at SEAi 2009-2010 for an example - not in any particular order and very little change through 2011 and indeed through the years - this doesnt mean that these are better, it just means that they work else I wouldnt be using them.

Re: recommend three lures
Was it the sandeels or the sandeel slugs?? if it was the sandeel I would be interested to know what size and colour you had success with. I think the slug gives a much broader spectrum of possibilities for use as it can be rigged in so many ways. The sandeels do look good but I havent caught on them yet.wobbie10 wrote:I can second the savage gear sandeels for using soft plastics. Had my biggest Bass of last year 5lbon the sandeels.

Henry's and Absolute Fishing provide top class service, orders dispatched very promptly, usually same day.baitdigger wrote:s there anywhere in Ireland that can compete with the UK sites for price and service?
Henry's have a bigger range at the moment and are reasonably priced - doubt there would be any saving by buying from UK when you take currency exchange rates and postage into account.
I hav'nt used an Ayu Feed Shallow, my favourite ones are the No. 14 and No. 11 but I am sure the Ayu No. 8 will work a treat.baitdigger wrote:Is the ayu any good as we get loads of small pollack round the roc

I tried Henrys this morning and for some lures as you said there was nothing in it price wise in fact for feed shallows after the exchange he was about one euro cheaper than the UK suppliers.
However the first two items I tried to order came up flagged that "the item is out of stock, you can still purchase it and it will be dispatched when it arrives in". Now in one way this is good because it indicates that others have the same faith in those particular lures but on the other hand I am not willing to wait an undefined period of time for them to arrive. He also does not stock Ima which I was also interested in trying so I ended up sending to the UK for the stuff again.

If you want to buy from an Irish dealer again, you may try give Dan in Halfway Angling Cork a call to get a quote on lures + postage. At lest I think he can send items by post.

Did you ring Henry?
He normally recieves his stock into the shop around now and actually may have had this lure in stock. He runs the website in his spare time and keeping info on that level of stock up to date can be difficult. He will also tell you when anything ordered in is due to arrive. He has an amazing selection of lures to chosse from and must be the best Irish supplier. As mentioned by other on SAI before, give him a call and ask for a discount for not shopping in the uk

No I didnt ring him but will give him a go in the future. I guessed there hadnt been a recent update on the website as the site license had expired and mozzilla was saying it was not a secure site to give details to yesterday.
Thanks for that.

RockHunter wrote:So which three lures did you go for in the end?
well....... I got a bit confused and overwhelmed with the choice

Tackle House Feed Shallow 128 Ayu
Lucky Craft Saltwater Gunnish 115 Aurora Sillaginoid - Kisu
ima Popkey 120F Mullet
ima Komomo SF-125 Kuriakuraun
Tackle House Feed Shallow 105 Konoshiro
and some yamamoto senkos
I still have to find the feed shallow 128 in mullet and white/pearl but nobody has them in stock. A bit of a lesson for next year- buy my new lures in winter.
I got my new rod and reel delivered yesterday and it looks nicely finished and handles well for the money. I wont really know until I load the reel up with braid and take it out and use it.
